About Will

Will Marsh is a global sitarist & guitarist who carries on the rich tradition of many genres with elegance, imagination and innovation.

From his roots as a guitarist in small-town northern Michigan to performing Hindustani sitar in Kolkata, Will’s musical journey has been rich and diverse. He has been performing classical sitar and guitar around the world for over two decades. Will has worked with Grammy-winning musicians and producers and has been featured on national T.V.

As a young kid, Will had an insatiable curiosity around music. He found himself listening to music from all corners of the world, feeling transported to other cultures, times and places. It was a profound experience that then shaped the trajectory of his artistic life.

Will studied classical and jazz guitar at the Interlochen Academy of the Arts before moving West and earning an MFA in World Music from The California Institute of the Arts. At Cal Arts, Will studied traditional sitar and Hindustani music most intensively but he also immersed himself in Balinese Gamelan, Persian classical music, West African dance/drumming, composition and experimental improvisation.

Will’s sitar gurus include some of the world’s greatest musicians including Ustad Aashish Khan (eldest son of Ali Akbar Khan), Roshan Jamal Bhartiya, Tushar Bhatia, and Shakir Khan. He travels to India annually to perform and further his studies with master-musicians. He performs as a unique voice in traditional sitar music and continues his mentors’ legacy by teaching students worldwide.

Currently, Will resides in the California Bay Area as a sought-after teacher, performer, and recording artist. He believes passionately that music is essential to all of humanity, and the experience of connecting to the past and future through music is an integral part of our collective journey.

His latest release “The Integration” dives into a deep well of influences with original compositions for sitar, guitar, cello, tabla, saxophone, and more.
With “The Integration Ensemble”, Will performs these original pieces at venues and festivals all over the world. Will Marsh offers a unique musical perspective, a fresh and vibrant take on time-honored traditions, and a lush sonic landscape which will engage and entrance audiences for decades to come.
